Dark brown top surface with bluish eyespots on the front wing. The ♀ has larger markings than the ♂. Underside grey-brown with a faint band and the eyespots are visible on the front wing. Often with open wings, which is unusual for this type of butterfly. ⇔ wsp. 45-60 mm
