Large orange butterfly with distinctive black markings, the orange on the rear wings tends to green. The ♂ has dark lines on the veins of the front wings, these are scent producing stripes. The undersurface of the front wing is red-orange with black markings, the tips being more yellow to green. The rear wings are green with white veins and lines and a light blue rear edge. Prefers warmer climates. ⇔ wsp. 64-80 mm LA: ≈ The ARGYNNIS PAPHIA (Silver-washed fritillary) is similar but more orange and the markings on the front wing differ.
