Small bee like hoverfly with a long snout and much hair. The flat rear is white black yellow-haired and the wings have a faint dark marking at the centre. Often on umbellifers such as hogweed. ⇔ l. 8-9 mm LA: There are several species of CHEILOSIA (subspecies of hoverfly) and most are black and thinly haired.
