A black head and front body, thick hairs with some white. The ♂ has an orange-red rear section with 4 white dots, black legs with white-ringed markings and the rear legs have orange markings. The ♀ is much larger and completely black, some yellow on head and legs.

Prefers warm rocky terrain or stony slopes. The ♀ weaves a web close to the ground with a hideout underground, she catches beetles and feeds the young. The ♂ wanders off at the end of summer looking for the web of the female.
