Long slim brown fly with a hairy white face, little hair on its back. The rear of the ♀ is shiny black-brown and contains the ovipositor (to lay eggs). Prefers sandy soil such as dunes and catches flies to suck them dry. ⇔ l. 13-19 mm LA: ≈ The DYSMACHUS TRIGONUS (Fan-bristled robberfly) has more hairs on the legs.
