A hoverfly with yellow black body and copper coloured breast. The rear is flat and oval shaped with ringed yellow black markings, a little cross section connects the first 2 rings. The legs are yellow with black. There is a yellow dot at the start of the rear body. Found mainly at forest edges on flowers, the larvae feed on aphids. ⇔ l. 10-12 mm LA: ≈ The SCAEVA SELENITICA has all rings connected at the back giving the markings a half-moon appearance. ≈ The SERICOMYIA SILENT has a black dot at the start of the rear body.
