The front wing has irregular black markings and the rear wing at least one black marking. It has a thick hairy head with a sturdy yellowish body with some black markings on the back. Night active and in the daytime, it can be found at a stem or in the grass. When disturbed it drops and plays dead. ⇔ wsp. 30-40 mm LA: ≈ The SPILOSOMA LUTEA (Buff ermine) is more yellowish and a different pattern.
