Upper surface wings orange with a wide brown band. On the forewing a black eye spot with 2 white spots and for the ♂ dark scent stripes. Underside forewing is same, hindwing brown marked sometimes with small eyespots. ⇔ wsp. 35-42 mm LA: ≈ Smaller than the very similar MANIOLA JURTINA (Meadow Brown), which has less orange.
