Upper surface ♂ dark brown, ♀ brown with an orange mark on the forewing. Under surface grey-brown with a white marked stripe across both wings. On hind wing orange marks with black edge and just in front of the tail a large blue mark. Found always with closed wings and mates only on the buckthorn family of plants. ⇔ wsp. 25-30 mm
