A brown bee with a fat hairy body. The breast is hairy light brown and the rear orange-brown with a black tip. The ♀ head is hairy black with small antennae and long belly hairs. The ♂ has white facial hair and longer antennae.

This is a solitary bee, the ♀lays eggs and some food in a little hole and closes (masons) it.

Eggs are laid in trees, walls or human-made insect hotels. The bees are kept in agriculture for pollination of plants. There are 20 types of mason bees, and this is the most common one.
