A broad triangular shaped head with an upward pointed nose (no horn though), a white throat and belly and slender body. The undersurface of the tail is often yellowish to ginger coloured. Prefers moist slopes with vegetation and open areas, it hides on the surface and is hardly ever seen climbing. Bites its prey with poison to swallow it in one piece. ⇔ l. 50-90 cm syn.
