Light grey-brown snake with a prominent wide triangular shaped head, a little horn on its nose and above each eye a large scale. On its back a clear zigzag line that can consist of unattached lines. The belly is grey-pinkish with dark markings, and the under surface of the tail is more ginger to green. Lots of variation in colour and head shape depending on location. It prefers dry rocky terrain with lots of sunny places. It climbs into bushes looking for rodents, reptiles, birds and other snakes. ⇔ l. 50-90 cm syn. Long-nosed viper, Nose-horned viper, Sand viper Southeast Europe. Very poisonous, dangerous to humans.
