A short dark skimmer with a white snout and partly white rear. Both sexes have a club-shaped rear. The ♂has a brownish body, the markings on the wings are white on the topside, and the first half of the contracted rear is grey-white widening towards the end in grey-black. The ♀ has yellow markings on the front and rear, the rear does not start contracted though but is a little wider at the end. The wing base is often yellowish. The ♂ often seen sitting on lilypads. ⇔ l. 33-37 mm LA: ≈ The other LEUCORRHINIA (Whiteface skimmers) all have black cerci (rear end extrusions) with the exception being the LEUCORRHINIA ALBIFRONS (Dark whiteface) which has black wings bases and misses the widening of the rear.
