Dark snail, often black. The shell is brown with yellow, white or greenish markings, somewhat flattened and 4 to 6 winds. Right at the entrance, the shell is narrower giving a smooth edge which is specific. It feeds on algae and plants. ⇔ l. 30-50 mm LA: ≈ The HELIX POMATIA (Vineyard snail) has a square opening, without taper and is usually much larger. ≈ The CORNU ASPERSUM (Garden snail) has a slight stripe across the back and a dark wrinkled shell.
