Round rear with a black head and legs. No breast. 

There are four stages: egg, larvae, nymph and adult. The larvae have six legs where nymph and adults have 8. To transfer to the next stage blood is needed. Only a fed adult ♀ becomes 1 cm, the adult ♂ is about 3 mm.

Blood is taken from mammals, birds and reptiles. It uses thinners and analgesic, so the bite is often unnoticed. Hosts are recognised by warmth and carbon dioxide.

A tick can do without food for as long as one year. Despite this fact, most ticks do not become an adult. This fact is compensated by the huge amount of eggs produced by the ♀.
The tick can carry Lyme and other bacterial diseases.
