Colourful cricket often green with black, red and white markings. The belly is white, and the legs are purple-red with black joints. The back shields are prominent due to its colours. The ♀ has a sturdy upwards curved ovipositor (to lay eggs). The wings are small, and the white tips are just visible under the neck shield. Sometimes they are very dark coloured with completely black back although the legs are mostly red. This bush cricket has relatively small rear legs and antennae, possibly to fight the cold conditions. ⇔ l. 16-23 mm Only found in the Alps at higher altitudes.
