Small white-grey geese with two black bars on its head. On both sides, the brown neck has a wide white line. The body is light grey coloured with the belly and breast more brownish. The wings are grey with a wide black rear edge, and the legs and beak are orange. The wings are large compared to other geese enabling them to fly at higher altitudes. ⇔ l. 68-78 cm Originally from central Asia where they cross the Himalayan mountains when migrating. Sometimes breeding in Europe as descendants of domestic or escaped individuals. LA: ≈ The BRANTA LEUCOPSIS (Barnacle goose) has a black neck and generally much darker. ≈ The ALOPOCHEN AEGYPTIACA (Egyptian goose) is more beige coloured and with the characteristic eye ring.
