Completely black with a metallic shine, a sturdy black beak. Chooses its nest and breeding area for use over many years and the nest is fiercely defended. Form a couple for life and they do not nest in colonies, like other crows. Outside breeding season in groups and they sleep in a shared tree at night. ⇔ l. 47-52 cm Related to the hooded crow that lives more in the north and east of Europe. LA: ≈ The CORVUS FRUGILEGUS (Rook) has more feathers on the upper legs and a bald lighter beak base. ≈ The CORVUS MONEDULA (Western jackdaw) has a grey head and is less shy. ≈ The CORVUS CORAX (Raven) is much larger. ≈ The CORVUS CORNIX (Hooded crow) has a grey body.
