Sturdy fowl with grey-brown feathers, red beak, eyes and legs. Grey head, brownish back, grey breast band. Striking marked flanks in black, brown and white. The head pattern with white, black and speckled below the black accompanied with the eye line and white eyebrow is specific. Lives in open terrain on lowlands and mountain slopes looking for seeds. The young will eat insects and bugs as well. ⇔ l. 32-34 cm syn. French partridge Can be found in Spain, Portugal, South of France and North Italy. This family of partridges (Alectoris) all live on bold stony patches. They look similar and have different marking patterns. LA: ≈ The PERDIX PERDIX (Partridge) has a red head and is more grey. The flans are less colourfull.
