Sturdy yellow-brown monkey, on the head, arms and legs more orange-brown in colour. The tail is minimal or completely absent. The face is bald and usually rosy with a ring of darker hair around it. ♀ get thick lumpy buttocks that become purplish when they are mating. The buttocks of the remaining flat. Lives in groups of 10 to 40 animals with multiple ♀, ♂ and younger animals. Checking for fleas is important for social contacts and is done by both sexes and all ages. They eat a lot of fruits, leaves, tubers and nuts, but also invertebrates, especially caterpillars. ⇔ hbl. 55-70 cm, sh. 45-50 cm, tl. 15 mm or none. ♀ remain slightly smaller than ♂. Lives in mountainous areas with forests, meadows and open water. In Europe only on the rock of Gibraltar, where the group is maintained by the government. There is a legend that says as long as there are monkeys on Gibraltar, it remains in the hands of the British. In Africa now only in Morocco and Algeria in the Cedar Mountains. LA: The only monkey in Gibraltar making them easy to identify.
