Large grey-white gull with yellow legs and flippers. The wings are grey with a broad black band and small white tip at the end. There is a red ring around the eye and a red spot on the yellow bill. Young birds are grey-brown with dark legs. Forage on the coast and behind fishing boats for offal. ⇔ l. 55-67 cm LA: ≈ The LARUS ARGENTATUS (Herring Gull) is somewhat light grey and has pink legs. However, the young birds are hardly distinguishable. ≈ The LARUS CANUS (Gull) is much smaller and lacks the red bill.
