Large black bird with a purple sheen. The long red beak is slightly curved. The bald head is pink with long feathers on the back and the eyes are red. Young birds still have a grey head and beak. ⇔ l. 70-80 cm syn. Hermit ibis, Waldrapp Very rare due to hunting, attempts to reintroduce the bird again are not very successful. The largest population is in southwest Morocco but it is also seen in Spain. Is not a wading bird like most Ibises, but lives and nests on bare rock ridges. LA: ≈ The PLEGADIS FALCINELLUS (Black Ibis) doesn't have a bald head and is without neck feathers. It also is a wader.
