Large beige-brown grasshopper with long wings and a light stripe across the back. The antennae are short and sturdy, the eyes are striped brown black and the neck shield has 3 transverse grooves. There are solid blue-purple spines on the calves of the long hind legs. ⇔ l. 47-82 mm Vegetable Eater, The family is known as migratory locusts that in huge groups can eat a large area completely. Especially found in southern Africa, fairly rare in southern Spain. LA: ≈ The ANACRIDIUM AEGYPTIUM (Egyptian locust) is often somewhat darker and lacks the light stripe. This species occurs throughout the Mediterranean area and also more to the north.
