Leaf-shaped yellow-orange or white butterfly. The top of ♂ is yellow with a large orange marking on the front wings and an orange dot on the rear wing. The ♀ is yellowish white. The underside of the wings is greenish yellow with clear veins. The rear wing has a dark dot in the middle. For the ♂ the orange shines through the front wing. The yellow and orange top stand out well in flight, as soon as the butterfly lands the wings are closed however the orange stays visible. ⇔ wsp. 50-70 mm The area around the Mediterranean Sea is up to 1600 m height. The host plants of the caterpillar are of the genus RHAMNUS. LA: ≈ The GONEPTERYX RHAMNI (Lemon Butterfly) flies throughout Europe and is more greenish-yellow without orange.
