Small light brown finch with a grey head and firm blunt bill and pink-red legs. During the breeding period, ♂ gets a bright orange to dark red beak and a pink breast and belly. ♀, young and ♂ outside the breeding season have a beige breast and a beige to yellow-pink beak.

⇔ l. 11-13 cm 

Preference for semi-desert to desert-like rocks. Not territorial, lives and breeds in small groups. 
The vocals sound like a light trumpet, in many languages it is named after this sound. 

In Europe easy to identify, because of the big blunt red beak and red legs and the characteristic vocals.
