Red-brown to yellow-brown, slender with a fairly long neck. Black ear markings, nose stripe, rump and tail stripes and eye edges. A clear distinction between the darker back and lighter belly on the flanks but without the dark brown band as seen on the springbok. Only the ♂ has horns. The colours help camouflage, they prefer lightly wooded areas near water. When threatened they can make huge laps of five times their own body length. ⇔ hbl. 120-160 cm, sh. 75-90 cm, tl. 30-40 cm, horns ♂ 45-90 cm
