Green to brown frog with mostly dark brown to black dots on the back. The green specimens have brown longitudinal ribs on the side of the back. Sometimes there is a bright green line in the middle of the back. The hind legs are darkened and have 5 toes, the forelegs have 4 toes. The grey belly side has a dark drawing. The pupils are horizontal, the muzzle is pointed. The vocal sac of ♂, on both sides of the mouth, is grey. Size, colour and markings can be very different, ♀ are larger than ♂. ♂ are usually greener in the mating season. Often found in flowing streams with sufficient vegetation to shelter. ⇔ l. 6-10 cm syn. RANA PEREZI, Iberian waterfrog, Iberian green frog, Coruna frog LA: ≈ Not to be confused with the PELOPHYLAX RIDIBUNDUS (Marsh frog) even though they are very similar, because they do not occur naturally in each other's habitat.
