Brown sparrow usually in a group. The ♂ has a chestnut-brown crown, white cheeks and a dark beard and chest during the breeding season. The belly side is black striped outside of the breeding season. The ♀ is mottled grey-brown with light streaks on the back and sides. 

Especially found in agricultural areas, colonies breed high in the tree, but also at the bottom of a stork's nest. In some areas also at houses.

LA: 
≈ Can cross with the PASSER DOMESTICUS (House Sparrow), making the distinction sometimes very difficult. But the ♂ House Sparrow has a grey cap and no stripes on the belly side. The ♀ alone is almost indistinguishable. 
≈ The PASSER MONTANUS (Tree Sparrow) has black cheek stains.
