Sizeable hairy wood bee with grey eyes. Head, chest and legs are light brown hairy, and the abdomen has light brown and grey stripes. The antennae are black. The wings are dark brown and slightly translucent. Takes the nectar mainly from the flowers of the genus ASPHODELUS. The nest is made in the dead wood of soft pine trees. ⇔ l. 20-25 mm Mainly in southwest Europe and northwest Africa, around the Mediterranean Sea. LA: Well recognisable due to the size, colour, eye colour and lack of metallic shine on the wings.
