Large bright red parasitic wasp, with a narrow waist and long rear. Bright wings that are half as long as the body. Long orange-red legs and feelers and big black eyes. ♀ lays eggs on caterpillars, without killing them, the caterpillars ultimately die because the larva eats them. The parasitic wasps are active at night and often attracted by light. ⇔ l. 30-35 mm The genus OPHION can be recognized by the veins of the wings, but the specific species is, in fact, difficult to distinguish, which is why it does not have its own species name. (sp. = species = species) LA: ≈ The veins in the wings of the NETELIA SP. form a small circle, which is the OPHION SP. never has. See photos LA.
