Slim bird of prey with slender wings ending in four fingers, the ♂ is light grey with black wingtips and a black line on the top, and the bottom is light grey with brown and black banding, the ♀ is spotted brown, the young look like ♀, but solid brown on the chest. Lives in wet areas such as coast and swamp and also called grain fields. Hunts low for mammals, birds and also eats insects and reptiles. ⇔ l. 40-45 cm LA: ≈ The CIRCUS CYANEUS (Hen harrier) shows five fingers and the male has a dark back edge at the undersurface. Both sexes also have less slender wings.
