Black yellow marked salamander. The pattern can be variable as well as the amount of yellow or black. The belly is grey and less marked. Some subspecies can have red markings. Small spots behind the eye are toxic glands. Mostly in deciduous woodland in cool shady spots. In higher altitudes near water. Only enters the water to lay its larva. Night active. ⇔ l. 14-20 cm including tail.
