Large, grey to brown, with thick legs and a trunk. Both genders have tusks. ♀ vorm herds of several generations, young ♂ group together temporary and old ♂ are often solitary. The waving of the ears is for cooling. Aggression is shown by an elevated head, elevated trunk, wide ears, trumpeting and kicking dirt. ⇔ hbl. 600-730 cm, th. 240-350 cm, tl. 100-150 cm A passing herd changes the landscape by eradicated wood, dug waterholes and trampled fields.
