Chubby toad, brown pattern, wart-like skin and no back stripe. Noticeable gold bronze to dark yellow coloured eyes in a relatively large head. Iris is horizontal. Short legs and toes, little flippers on the hind toes. Lots of variation in pattern and colour, no green though. ♀ grow larger than ♂, in southern Europe, they grow larger than northern Europe. In spring they gather in large groups for mating. ⇔ l. 6-13 cm This is the largest endemic frog in Europe.
