Black hairy wasp with 2 bright yellow bands on the back. The wings are shiny black brown. ♂ have slightly longer antennas with 13 segments, ♀ have 12. The wasps have a preference for purple and blue flowers. The ♀ captures and anaesthetized larvae of a SCARABAEIDAE (Scarabs) on which she lays an egg, the larvae eventually eat their host. ⇔ l. 16-22 mm LA: ≈ The SCOLIA SEXMACULATA has broken yellow spots and is smaller but easy to confuse.
