Completely white egret with black legs, a yellow beak and a majestic pace. While breeding the beak becomes black and the legs become pinkish, at the lower back some lace like feathers appear. Hunts on waterfronts and grassy patches by waiting for the prey to pass and then stabbing it with its beak. Nests in trees often together with other species like the blue heron. ⇔ l. 85-100 cm More recently has also been found on northern European fields.
