Small plover with brown back and wings, white belly, black band on forehead and eyes. Black collar, tail tip, legs and beak. While breeding the ♂ has a chestnut brown cap. Seen on shorelines or on brackish water, runs along the water searching for food. ⇔ l. 15-17 cm Migratory bird breeding in Europe and wintering in western Africa. LA: ≈ The differentiator to the CHARADRIUS DUBIUS (Little ringed plover) and CHARADRIUS HIATICULA (Ringed plover) is that these have a complete collar.
