A white head and chest, dark grey back and wings with back tips, yellow beak with a red marking and bright yellow legs and eyes. Long tail that reaches beyond the wings.
The tail length and black white markings differ in some subspecies. Young adults are grey-brown marked and after 2 years develop their adult colouring.

Mostly in coastal areas but can breed in urban areas.  Hunts on other water birds and their young but can find food on waste dumps as well.

LA:
≈ Very similar to the LARUS ARGENTATUS (Herring gull) which is light grey and has pinkish legs. 
≈ In colour similar to the LARUS MARINUS (Great black-backed gull) which is considerably larger.
