Large yellow beak, light grey head, bold red face, long tail and dark marked wings with a white belly. Often seen alongside roads. They feed mainly on the ground, where they take seeds, small insects, spiders and scorpions. They have a very characteristic flight pattern. ⇔ l. 50-60 cm All over southern Africa since this bird prefers arid areas.
