Red-brown owl with a heart-shaped face. Breast, belly and legs have white feathers. The yellow claws are featherless. The eyes are set in the front of the face instead of the side like most birds, the face is also very flat. It has very soft feathers enabling it to fly without sound. Like most birds of prey, the ♀ is larger and heavier than the ♂. They prefer abandoned houses or sheds for day shelter and breeding. It hunts at night flying low over the terrain. ⇔ l. 29-44 cm
