Grey duck with a dark head. ♂ has a wide green band over the eye, on the flanks, a light and dark stripe and the undersurface of the tail are light yellow with a black edge. The ♀ is brown marked with a dark back. On the wing is a wide green speculum with a white band on top, very visible in flight. This duck is feeding on vegetation and even at night looking for food. LA: ≈ The ANAS QUERQUEDULA (Garganey) which is missing the green speculum feathers.
