Brown duck with a light marking on its head. ♂ more even brown with a thick white stripe just over the eyes. Blue-grey at the front wing edge, dark white banded behind. ♀ is brown marked with grey-white banded wings, the light eye marking is thin, light throat and beak base. ⇔ l. 36-40 cm syn. SPATULA QUERQUEDULA Breeding in south-east Europe and winters in Africa. LA: ≈ Very similar to the ANAS CRECCA (Teal) which has no white on its head and no green speculum feathers.
