♂ have vibrant redheads and chests while having a grey head. Back is brown, breast and belly feathers are dark-edged grey. Sturdy beak. Mostly in small groups feeding on the surface, sometimes with other birds. ⇔ l. 13-14 cm Found in South Africa in the wild but mostly known as cage-bird since it easily breeds in captivity.
