Slim, brown striped back, belly yellowish with markings, thin beak and legs, the undersurface of the tail is light. Genders look similar. Tuneful singing, often of the top of a pole or branch or in flight. ⇔ l. 14-16 cm LA: ≈ Looks like a PASSER DOMESTICUS (House sparrow), but more yellow breast with stripes and pink legs. ≈ Looks also like the ANTHUS PRATENSIS (Meadow pipit) but the Tree pipit has more pronounced colours and walks more smoothly, it is also missing the large rear toe.
