Greenish yellow and brown marked bird. ♂ has a bright yellow head, breast and belly in summer accompanied by a red-brown collar. The wings are brown marked and the rump is red-brown, the undersurface of the tail is yellow ending in a white V-shape. In winter the ♂ is paler like the ♀, but with more stripes on the face. Often seen in groups together with sparrows and chaffinches. ⇔ l. 16-17 cm LA: ≈ The MOTACILLA CITREOLA (Citrine wagtail) has a yellow head as well but a longer beak and the back is grey instead of brown.
