Multi-coloured finch with long wings, orange breast and white belly. An orange and white stripe on the wings. The ♂ has orange shoulders, in spring its head turns black, in winter the head is brown like with the ♀. She has brown shoulders and in winter the wing under surface is yellowish. Outside breeding season, seen in groups and in winter with the Common Chaffinch at feeding tables. ⇔ l. 14-16 cm A migratory bird, breeds in northern Europe and winters in the south and central Europe.
