Both back and head are black, yellow beak, orange-brown breast and tail, the belly is black white marked. Under surface of wings is black with a broad white band, the top surface has a similar but grey band. The call is specific and jackal-like. Hunts from a lookout point as well as when gliding. Prey as large as chickens even in suburban areas. Pairs can have noisy aerial displays not limited to the breeding season. ⇔ l. 45-55 cm Resident bird.
