Pinkish brown bird with a black moustache and bright blue and white feathers at the front of the wings. A black tail and wingtips, at the wing centre white bands visible in flight. Shy bird in summer, in autumn and winter it is easier to spot. Can imitate sounds including other animals. Loves acorns and gathers them before winter to store in marked areas. ⇔ l. 30-36 cm A migratory bird, though in central Europe seen all year round; summer residents fly south and the winter guests are from the north.
