Black white swallow with a long forked tail. Wings and back blueish black, white belly and a red face. The ♀ has shorter tail feathers than the ♂, the young have yet shorter tail feathers and are less brightly coloured. Catches and eats bugs on the wing. Young form groups that sleep together, the adults join later before the migration. ⇔ l. 17-19 cm Migratory bird to winter in tropical Africa. The national bird of Austria and Estonia. LA: ≈ The DELICHON URBICA (House martin) has a white face and a shorter tail.
