Small tit with backwards pointed black and white crest. A white head with black markings, pinkish breast and light brown wings. A forest bird in both pine and mixed forest, rarely in parks or gardens. It digs out a nest in rotten wood. ⇔ l. 11-12 cm syn. PARUS CRISTATUS Resident bird. LA: ≈ The PERIPARUS ATER (Coal tit) has a completely white cheek and no crest.
